US Airways pares commercial flights to ferry troops
WASHINGTON (AFP) Apr 08, 2003
US Airways said Tuesday it would suspend some commercial flights to Britain and Germany because the aircraft were needed to ferry US troops involved in the Iraq war.

One daily return flight between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and London-Gatwick and another between Pittsburgh and Frankfurt were being suspended in May, the airline said in a statement.

The planes were needed for the Civil Reserve Air Fleet to move troops to and from the Middle East, it said.

"These May adjustments in Pittsburgh are a result of our commitment of widebody aircraft to the CRAF program activated due to the war in Iraq, which has lasted longer than anticipated," said US Airways marketing and planning senior vice president Ben Baldanza.

Both routes were scheduled to return to normal June 1.
