EU role in post-war Iraq to be discussed Wednesday

European Union ambassadors will meet Wednesday in Athens to discuss the EU's role in post-war Iraq in terms of humanitarian aid and reconstruction, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said.

"The EU's role will be debated tomorrow when the committee of permanent representatives meets," Papandreou, whose country currently chairs the EU's rotating presidency, said Tuesday.

"We will notably discuss humanitarian aid and reconstruction in post-war Iraq."

Papandreou reiterated the United Nations must play a central role in post-war Iraq.
