ICRC to open temporary mission in Turkey to deal with Iraq

Turkey said Tuesday it would allow the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to open a temporary mission here to help deal with Iraqi war-related problems.

The foreign ministry said in a statement it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the ICRC on Monday for the opening of a mission in the Turkish capital.

"The ICRC temporary mission will carry out activities in cooperation and coordination with our country in the fields of legal and humanitarian assistance in the Iraq crisis," the statement said.

Germany said Tuesday that it would donate another one million eurosmillion dollars) to the ICRC for relief work in Iraq, after pledging one million euros last month.
