Iraqi car tries to cross Baghdad bridge amid US tank fire

 Amid a major battle in Baghdad, a little white car drove onto the city's Republic bridge before swiftly reversing after a warning shot exploded from a US tank, an AFP reporter said.

After the blast right in front of the vehicle, two passengers jumped out before the driver spun round and they all sped back to the eastern bank.

The car ventured onto the Al-Jumhuriya (Republic) bridge shortly after two Abrams tanks arrived to take control sparking the first exchange of fire with Iraqi forces on the east bank of the Tigris.
