Fresh fighting, huge explosions heard in western Baghdad
BAGHDAD (AFP) Apr 08, 2003
Five huge explosions followed by automatic gunfire were heard Tuesday at around 5:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) in the west of Baghdad, and a fire could be seen blazing in the area, AFP correspondents reported.

What appeared to be Iraqi anti-aircraft fire was also seen in the dawn sky over the Iraqi capital.

The explosions came a day after US tanks and armoured vehicles smashed into the heart of Baghdad, destroying a huge statue of President Saddam Hussein and raiding three of his palaces.
