Three US Bradley vehicles at Baghdad palace as fighting intensifies
BAGHDAD (AFP) Apr 07, 2003
Fighting intensified Monday afternoon at Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's sprawling Republican Palace here, next to which at least three US Bradley fighting vehicles were positioned, an AFP correspondent said.

The Bradleys fired on the buildings on the banks of the Tigris around 4:00 pm (1200 GMT). A group of troops got out of one of the vehicles and entered one of the buildings after setting fire to surrounding bushes.

The troops then blew up a nearby building.

A number of explosions echoed out which seemed to come from an arms depot that caught fire in a morning raid.

The roar of planes flying at a low altitude was heard clearly in Baghdad in the early afternoon. Iraqi anti-aircraft defenses opened fire despite minimal visibility due to the smoke and dust covering the city.
