Disaccord over Iraq hurting international relations: Danish poll
COPENHAGEN (AFP) Apr 07, 2003
A majority of Danes believe that international disagreement over the Iraq war will significantly damage European and UN cooperation in the long run, according to a Gallup poll published on Monday.

Some 56 percent of Danes questioned said they believed that the different points of view on Iraq within the European Union would lead to a serious deterioration of European cooperation in the long term, the poll showed.

France and Germany have expressed strong opposition to the war, while Britain is the United States' main ally in the conflict.

Thirty-nine percent of Danes said they did not believe it would damage EU relations, while five percent were undecided.

Sixty percent said cooperation among United Nations members had been damaged, while 33 percent disagreed and seven percent were undecided.

Asked about Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's ardent support for the US in the conflict, 44 percent said they believed his position would be strengthened following the war while 38 percent said it would be weakened.

The poll, published in the daily Berlingske Tidende, questioned 974 people during the period March 28-April 4.
