Intense US-British overflights of Baghdad
BAGHDAD (AFP) Apr 07, 2003
Coalition aircraft intensified flights over Baghdad Monday following a lightning raid on President Saddam Hussein's main palace, AFP reporters in the Iraqi capital said.

The roar of planes flying at a low altitude was heard clearly in the city in the early afternoon. Iraqi anti-aircraft defenses opened fire despite minimal visibility due to the smoke and dust covering the city.

Loud explosions could be heard sporadically at a distance.
