Raids reported on Mosul: Al-Jazeera

Heavy shelling of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul was underway in the early hours of Monday morning, the Arabic language satellite television station Al-Jazeera reported.

A correspondent said three raids took place around the city at dawn, but gave no further details.

Long distance cannon fire was also reported to be aimed at the city.

Mosul remains under Iraqi control but Kurdish peshmerga and US troops, parachuted in last week, are active in the region as part of a northern front.
