US war dead put at 79

 The US casualty toll in the Iraq war rose Saturday to 79 dead as the names of eight missing soldiers were added to the list of the confirmed dead, the Pentagon said.

The death toll included 65 who were killed by hostile fire and 14 in war-related accidents, said Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Colin, a Pentagon spokeswoman.

The tally of wounded was 154, she said.

Eight military personnel were missing and seven were prisoners of war.
