EU needs UN resolution to back Iraq reconstruction: Greek FM

A UN resolution is a prerequisite for the European Union to give its full backing to post-war reconstruction of Iraq, the Greek EU presidency said Thursday.

"A UN resolution will be a prerequisite for a full involvement of the European Union in the post-conflict reconstruction process," said Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou.

He was speaking after an extraordinary meeting of EU and NATO foreign ministers, including US Secretary of State Colin Powell, focussed on planning for post-war Iraq.
