Jordanian PM summons US ambassador to protest Iraqi casualties
AMMAN (AFP) Apr 03, 2003
Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb on Thursday summoned the US ambassador to voice the government's "condemnation" at the death of Iraqi civilians in coalition attacks, officials said.

"Jordan holds the United States and Britain, and any other country engaged in the war on Iraq, responsible for the protection of innocent civilians ... and condemns the killings and destructions resulting from Iraq's invasion," Abu Ragheb told Ambassador Edward Gnehm, officials said.

Jordan's King Abdullah II on Wednesday described for the first time US-British attacks on neighbouring Iraq as an "invasion" and expressed his anguish over civilian war casualties, calling them "martyrs".
