US war toll in Iraq: 49 dead, 7 PoWs, 15 missing
WASHINGTON (AFP) Apr 03, 2003
The war in Iraq has left 49 US troops dead, 40 of them in combat, seven known prisoners of war, 15 missing and 150 wounded, the Pentagon said late Wednesday.

Seven of the non-combat dead were accident victims. The other two were mortally wounded when one of their own comrades tossed grenades into their tent as they slept in northern Kuwait, said a spokesman who declined to be named.

The 15 missing have been placed in a provisional category, said the spokesman, because it was not known if they were dead or had been taken prisoner.
