First private Russian spaceship in works
MOSCOW, (UPI) July 23 , 2004 -

A space shuttle being built in Moscow could give Russia its first private spaceship, it was reported Friday.

Work on the Cosmopolis XXI has been suspended because of lack of funding, Novosti said.

Under development by the Myasishchev design bureau with financial backing from the company Space Adventures, designed similarly to its U.S. cousin, SpaceShipOne, which recently rose to the upper atmosphere. Creators of the Russian craft say they hope the American flight will help their cause.

The Cosmopolis XXI is a small craft, launched from an aircraft and seating three -- one pilot and two space tourists.
