U.S. contracts CPI Aerostructures for F-16 wing components

Structural wing components for thousands of F-16 fighters are to be provided by CPI Aerostructures under a contract from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency.

The wing components, together with logisitical support, are for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations for the Fighting Falcons.

The U.S. military flies more than 1,000 F-16s, while allied nations operate nearly 1,000 of the aircraft.

"This is the largest contract we have received from the U.S. government in more than a decade and re-establishes CPI Aero as one of the nation's leading small business prime contractors of military aircraft structure," said Douglas McCrosson, president and chief executive officer of CPI Aero. "With this award, we have gained a footprint on a new platform for us, the F-16, one of the world's most popular military aircraft, with approximately 2,900 aircraft flying in the air forces of 28 nations."

Under the fixed-price indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity award, CPI Aero is the single supplier of 439 structural wing parts used to maintain, repair and overhaul the planes.

The contract's logistics provisions covers parts acquisition, stocking, order fulfillment, technical data management, configuration control, supply chain management, forecasting and inventory management.

CPI Aero will also provide engineering support services for obsolescence management.

The award is for five years, with a single three-year option. If the option is exercised, the contract's estimated value is $53.5 million.
