Corvus' lithium polymer energy storage solution is a cost effective solution for hybridization of commercial vessels. It provides the consistent performance to meet the growing demand for more sophisticated, green vessel systems.

Corvus Energy and Scandlines has announced the completion of the commissioning for the Scandlines' fleet of hybrid ferries: the M/V Deutschland, M/V Schleswig-Holstein and M/V Prins Richard.

They represent the largest fleet of hybrid ferries in operation today. Based on the success of Scandline's first hybrid conversion, the MF Prinsesse Benedikte, the latest three vessels each use a 2.7MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 399 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries integrated with Siemens drive systems.

A vital economic link between Denmark and Germany, the ferries are in operation on the Puttgarden and Rodby route (alongside MF Prinsesse Benedikte), in service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and have sailings every 30 minutes from each side. The newly refit hybrid ferries deliver significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved maintenance costs and optimized engine performance resulting in significantly decreased operating expenses.

"Scandlines is a true pioneer and we are very pleased to that the Corvus' large format energy storage systems' robust design combined with integrated safety systems is enabling their success," said Andrew Morden, Corvus Energy CEO.

"Our performance and safety attributes are now validated by our partners, customers and the independent certification bodies, Lloyds Register, DNV and ABS. Corvus is the only lithium energy storage system to have these safety and quality qualifications."

Corvus' lithium polymer energy storage solution is a cost effective solution for hybridization of commercial vessels. It provides the consistent performance to meet the growing demand for more sophisticated, green vessel systems.

Fini Hansen, Technical Superintendent, Fleet Management, Scandlines Danmark A/S says, "Scandlines' investment in hybridizing their fleet will benefit not only the people in the areas adjacent to the harbour and beyond in terms of reduced pollution, but also the company in terms of reduced operating costs. Scandlines' experience with Corvus Energy has been great; their talented team and robust product offering make them an ideal partner on these conversions."

The adaptable modular Corvus ESS allows vessel system integrators and designers an alternative source of high energy that creates the opportunity to re-design systems to reduce system complexity and costs throughout the vessel, providing load leveling, peak shaving, backup power and spinning reserve duties.
