Army orders equipment from TeleCommunication Systems Inc.

Latin American country orders C4I systems from Elbit
Haifa, Israel (UPI) Aug 13, 2013 - Elbit Systems Ltd. of Israel says it is supplying C4I systems to an unidentified country in Latin America as part of a military modernization program.

The contract for command, control, computer, communications and intelligence systems is worth $80 million, it said.

"We are pleased with this award that further strengthens our position as a leading global supplier of C4I systems, which are already operational in dozens of countries worldwide," said Yehuda (Udi) Vered, general manager of Elbit Systems Land and C4I Division. "We hope more customers will follow in choosing our cutting-edge unique solutions."

Work under the contract will be performed over a three-year period and involves a unified communications network for maneuvering forces up to command staff.

Elbit Systems said the network will play a key role during emergencies and natural disasters, and will facilitate a real-time, common operational picture for enhanced operational performance and situational awareness.

Additional details were not provided.

The U.S. Army has given TeleCommunication Systems Inc. a delivery order for equipment and maintenance of Tactical Transportable Troposcatter Systems.

The 3T system provides high bandwidth, low latency, non-satellite beyond-line-of-sight network data transmission -- at speeds greater than that of satellite transmission -- by bouncing microwave radio transmissions off of the Earth's troposphere.

TeleCommunication Systems Inc. said the system is a combination of the SNAP Very Small Aperture Terminal used on today's battlefield and Comtech Systems' troposcatter technology.

TCS is Comtech's integrator of choice for deployable troposcatter communications for the U.S. military.

"TCS, in partnership with Comtech Systems, has created a growing market within the Department of Defense for deployable troposcatter communication," said TCS Government Solutions Group President Michael Bristol. "TCS' 3T system provides the DOD with low latency, high bandwidth beyond-line-of-sight communications between multiple air defense systems.

"Our 3T system is field-proven, having successfully completed multiple network integration evaluations, and currently supports real world missions."

The initial funded value of the delivery order is $5.3 million and runs through February of 2016.
