Harris To Support USAF SatCom Operations

Harris already provides operations and maintenance support for the AFSCN's worldwide locations under the Operational Space Services and Support (OSSS) contract, currently valued at approximately $220 million. Harris Corporation has been awarded a one-year, $43 million contract to provide operations and maintenance services for the U.S. Air Force Satellite Control Network's (AFSCN's) communications functions at Schriever AFB, Colorado and Onizuka AFS, California. The contract contains options that could increase the overall value for Harris to $355 million by 2009.

Under terms of the MCOM contract, Harris will provide diverse communications support services to include site integration, scheduling, maintenance of technical drawings, database applications programming, local area network/wide area network (LAN/WAN) operations, help desk functions, and military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) terminal operations.

"This is a significant win for Harris and we are extremely pleased that the Air Force has again placed its confidence in Harris to provide the technical services that are critical to the successful operation of its satellite control network," said Bob Henry, president, Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD).

"With the award of MCOM, and with Harris serving as the prime contractor for OSSS, the Air Force now has a single team dedicated to its mission of satellite telemetry tracking and commanding."

The Air Force Satellite Control Network is managed by the U.S. Air Force 50th Space Wing, which operates satellite operation centers and their communications networks at Schriever AFB and remote tracking stations, and other command and control facilities around the world.

These facilities monitor satellites during launch, position the satellites in their proper orbits following launch, operate the satellites while they are in orbit, and resolve satellite anomalies when they occur.

HTSC, located in Alexandria, Virginia, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Corporation and reports through the Government Communications Systems Division. HTSC provides engineering and technical support solutions for prime contractors, the Department of Defense, and other government agencies worldwide.

Harris GCSD conducts advanced research studies, develops prototypes, and produces and supports state-of-the-art, highly reliable communications and information systems that solve the mission-critical communications challenges of its military and government customers, as well as provides the technology base for the company's diverse commercial businesses.
