Leo One Worldwide Announces Vendor Team
St Louis - October 11, 1999 - Leo One Worldwide, Inc. announces the selection of Dornier Satellitensysteme GmbH (DSS), a corporate unit of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG ("DASA"), Eurockot Launch Services GmbH, and Lockheed Martin Space Electronics & Communications to complete the construction and launch of its 48-satellite low Earth-orbit mobile satellite system.

In addition to the existing contract, these agreements complete the arrangements necessary for the construction and launch of all satellites in Leo One's 48-satellite constellation, including spares. The combined value of these agreements exceeds $400M. Each of these three companies will also make a direct equity investment in Leo One.

The Leo One constellation will consist of 48 low-Earth orbiting (LEO) satellites capable of providing near-real-time store-and-forward data services to users around the world. The Leo One system is designed to support numerous wireless data applications, including tracking, monitoring, messaging, emergency and transaction services.

The Leo One system is designed to support higher data rates and thus achieve greater spectral efficiency than other Little LEO systems. Furthermore, Leo One is the only Little LEO system designed to support near-real-time data messaging delivery. Leo One's use of VHF and UHF frequencies assures high quality signals in areas of dense foliage and heavy rain in addition to facilitating the use of very low cost and low power terminals.

The Leo One system is designed to be highly reliable - every message is acknowledged to guarantee delivery. Multiple classes of service ensures high priority handling of emergency and alarm-type messages. Redundancy will be built into the terrestrial backbone infrastructure and the system will be able to tolerate multiple satellite failures with no customer-perceptible degradation in service. The Leo One system further minimizes risk by maintaining spare satellites on-orbit and by using highly reliable launch services and space-qualified satellite components and subsystems. The overlapping satellite footprints and high satellite sparing result in a very high level of redundancy in the constellation so customers can safely rely on Leo One for mission critical applications.

The Leo One system is designed to utilize multiple levels of encryption along with sophisticated error-checking to ensure customers can rely on the integrity and security of their communications. This is an important feature to commercial applications related to recording of revenue, remote control of assets or security.
