StarBand and NomadISP launch WiFi Hotspot Service

McLean VA - Apr 27, 2004
StarBand, America's leading high-speed, two-way satellite Internet provider, and NomadISP, a division of LinOra Corporation, today launched the NomadISP AH-1 'Anywhere Hotspot' product powered by StarBand.

The Anywhere Hotspot turnkey solution offers high-speed Internet connectivity through the StarBand network via NomadISP's industry standard WiFi technology. Because StarBand's satellite provided high-speed Internet service is powering the Anywhere Hotspot service, it is available to any location across North America and is particularly well suited for those unable to get affordable broadband connectivity via DSL or Cable.

The Anywhere Hotspot allows remote, yet heavily populated places such as campgrounds, RV Parks, marinas, convention centers, hotels, libraries, airports and train stations to access public wireless broadband network services for their visitors with a WiFi enabled laptop or other Internet device.

"Many recreational area site owners are impressed with the extensive feature list of the Anywhere Hotspot product suite offering a complete solution to High-Speed WiFi Internet access for guests. However for most, the needed broadband connectivity to power the AH-1 product was not available," says Kelly Hogan, CEO and founder of NomadISP.

"Our partnership with StarBand solves this problem and makes offering a turnkey WiFi solution to owners not only affordable and quite profitable, but also insures the owners have a local contact for installation and support."

"Increasingly, today's travelers need to stay connected to the Internet wherever they travel," claims StarBand Chairman and CEO Zur Feldman. "The Anywhere Hotspot powered by StarBand is a great solution for a wide array of hospitality, lodging, and recreational businesses seeking to provide this service to their customers while profiting from this opportunity."

StarBand and NomadISP already have service agreements in place with campgrounds across the country and responses have been overwhelmingly positive.

"Without the NomadISP and StarBand solution, we simply could not effectively offer WiFi to our campground guests as the data line costs would be too high. Many of our loyal guests were asking about the service and we knew we needed to offer it to stay competitive in our industry," says Mike Leo of Misty Mountain Campgrounds, in Greenwood, Virginia. "Now our guests are enjoying the service and we are able to offer it at a reasonable price."

"The StarBand and NomadISP solution will enable us to offer high-speed Internet service as another amenity to our residents. This technology will offer the convenience of Internet service to all residents without the restrictions of landline service. The cost structure of the service will allow our weekend residents to have Internet service without the monthly fees as required by other services," said Andy Andrews, Director of the 650 acre, 1,300 site Pathfinder Village resort in Hinckley, MN.

Daniel Freedman, Assistant Manager at HI Valley RV Park in Boise, Idaho says, "The NomadISP system has been such a simple business decision. It's simple, quick to install, and really provides a great service for our guests! The service has received an enthusiastic response from our guests, and insures we are keeping them happy."

The NomadISP Anywhere Hotspot powered by StarBand ranges from $1,795 to $1,995 for a complete hardware package and as little as $149.99 per month. The site owner can recover the monthly service fee with usage by as few as five end-users per day. The expansive StarBand dealer network will distribute this turnkey WiFi hotspot solution.
