Space In Our Lives Competition

Paris (ESA) Jan 07, 2004
What difference does space make to our lives and what changes will it bring about in the future? These are two of the questions that Eurisy and UNESCO are asking young people to consider in an international essay competition called "Space in our lives".

A good knowledge about space today is needed as well as plenty of creativity in order to imagine what the future may bring. Entries will be judged on the grasp shown of the topic, originality, creativity and the use of resource materials. The competition is open to all young people aged between 11 and 15 and closes on 30 April.

Some advice from the organisers: think about the role of space in everyday life and its contribution to social, economic and cultural development, then discuss ideas with family and teachers, and try to learn as much as possible from books, magazines and websites concerned with space, such as that of ESA.

Entries written in most European languages are eligible, as focal points have been set up to translate essays into English or French for judging. Winners of the first and second prizes will receive a camera, and the third prize is a pair of binoculars.

More information on the competition rules can be found on the site of Eurisy, the European organisation set up to promote education and information activities on space technology and its applications.
