Boeing technicians rolled back the mobile service tower at Space Launch Complex 37B, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., providing the first glimpse of the fully integrated Boeing Delta IV rocket. The Delta IV Medium+ configuration includes the first stage, solid rocket motors, second stage, a 4-meter wide composite fairing and a simulated payload that will eventually be replaced by a telecommunications satellite. The tower rollback sets the stage for the Delta team to conduct tests that will demonstrate the rocket and ground support equipment are compatible with the radio frequency and electromagnetic transmitters. The first launch of the Boeing Delta IV rocket will carry a telecommunications satellite for Eutelsat S.A. of France, in October 2002.
