This Cassini spacecraft narrow angle camera view of Saturn's southern polar region features a bright white spot, or storm, surrounded by faint, darker swirls of clouds. The image was taken on July 22, 2004, from a distance of 6.7 million kilometers (4.2 million miles) from Saturn, through a filter sensitive to wavelengths of infrared light. The image scale is 39 kilometers (24 miles) per pixel. Contrast was slightly enhanced to bring out features in the atmosphere. Cassini-Huygens Periapsis Raising Manoeuvre
Paris (ESA) Aug 25, 2004The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft has successfully performed its scheduled Periapsis Raising Manoeuvre (PRM). A 51 minute burn of the primary engine corrected the spacecraft trajectory to place it on a course to encounter Saturn's largest moon, Titan, in October. The manoeuvre also raised the periapsis (point of closest approach to Saturn) by over 400 000 km. |
