Spectrum Sciences & Software Holdings announced Wednesday that its wholly owned subsidiary, Horne Engineering Services, has been awarded contract modifications that extend its onsite support to the ground-based midcourse missile defense (GMD) program at Fort Greely, Alaska.

Horne Engineering has supported the GMD Program since January 2003, and the new work increases the value of this support to $2.3 million.

A major component of U.S. efforts to defend the nation against ballistic missile attacks, the $400-million-plus GMD program is focused on developing capabilities for intercepting long-range missiles in the midcourse stage of flight.

With the help of several contractors, the Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been constructing key facilities for the GMD system.

Horne Engineering has been providing expertise in the areas of contract administration, quality assurance, and project controls to the Army Corps of Engineers, Resident Engineer's Office, at Fort Greely.
