LONDON, Dec 4 (AFP) Dec 04, 2009 Britain welcomed US President Barack Obama's decision Friday to attend the climax of UN climate talks and to back a fund for developing nations, saying it would give "huge impetus" to the negotiations. Obama originally planned to attend the UN climate conference next week, but the White House said Friday that he would now be there at the climax of the negotiations on December 18. At the same time, the White House said the United States was ready to pay a "fair share" of 10 billion dollars in annual aid to developing countries to cope with climate change. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's spokeswoman said: "The prime minister strongly welcomes President Obama's announcement, which gives huge impetus to the Copenhagen negotiations. "We have a long way to go. But world leaders are coming together to signal their readiness to make climate change history." All rights reserved. copyright 2018 Agence France-Presse.
