Taiwan flat panel maker Chi Mei posts 172 fold rise in first half profit TAIPEI (AFP) Aug 26, 2004 The world's fourth largest flat panel maker, Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp said Thursday that it posted a more than 172 fold rise in first half profit on the back of robust demand. In the six months to June, the company, a maker of thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels, reported net profit of 17.33 billion Taiwan dollars (509.7 million US), up from 100.73 million Taiwan dollars seen a year ago. Sales surged from 24.01 billion dollars to 55.02 billion dolalrs. Earnings per share in the first half rose sharply to 5.21 dollars, up from 0.03 dollar.
