Russia launches communications satellite
MOSCOW (AFP) Dec 29, 2003
A Russian Proton rocket carrying a communications satellite, Express-AM22, blasted off from the space base of Baikonur in Kazakhstan early Monday, a spokesman for Russia's military space corps said.

The rocket was launched at 2:00 a.m. Moscow time (2300 GMT Sunday), the RIA-Novosti news agency quoted the spokesman as saying.

The satellite will carry digital television, Internet and mobile telephone links.
