Weather delays launch of Japanese satellite from Russia
MOSCOW (AFP) Oct 29, 2003
High winds have delayed the launch of a Japanese research satellite from northern Russia, the Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.

The launch of the "Service-1," which was to have been sent into space Wednesday afternoon from a launching site in Russia's northern Arkhangelsk region, has been delayed indefinitely, Interfax said.

The satellite was to have tested the work of household electronics, like portable computers and mobile telephones, in outer space, Interfax said.

Wind speed at the launch site on Wednesday reached 76 meters (yards) per second. The "Rokot" rocket that was due to carry the satellite into space is not meant to fly above wind speeds of 46 meters per second, Interfax said.
