"The ATLAS program will ensure timely catalog updates and event response capabilities to expedite operational timelines across civil, commercial, and Department of Defense (DoD) applications. This suite of capabilities is designed to scale in response to the increasing volume of available data, additional data sources, and the growing number of spaceborne objects, while also integrating seamlessly with emerging mission areas and novel operational methodologies," explained USSF Major Peter Vayda, Space Operations Command (SpOC), Mission Delta 2 (MD 2), 2nd Sustainment Squadron (2STS), Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Software Branch Chief.
Vayda further emphasized, "The Space Force is leveraging ATLAS to unify all SDA, C2, Intelligence, Operational, and System Readiness-relevant data, thereby enhancing course-of-action development and decision-making capabilities."
SSC is responsible for overseeing ATLAS acquisitions, with SpOC MD 2 set to operate the system upon its deployment. This effort is part of a broader USSF strategy to establish a force capable of addressing great power competition. The contract ensures a seamless continuation of the ATLAS program, aiming to achieve the Minimum Viable Capability Release (MVCR) Operational Acceptance. Additionally, ATLAS will modernize and integrate SDA systems, replacing the outdated Space Defense Operations Center (SPADOC) system.
By advancing SDA capabilities and improving decision-making processes, ATLAS will enhance operational efficiency across space operations centers. Its ability to consolidate and analyze critical data will empower the USSF to better detect and respond to emerging threats, strengthening national security.
Space Systems Command serves as the U.S. Space Force's field command, tasked with acquiring, developing, and deploying resilient capabilities to safeguard the nation's strategic advantage in space. Managing a $15.6 billion space acquisition budget for the Department of Defense, SSC collaborates with joint forces, industry leaders, government entities, academic institutions, and allied organizations to counter evolving threats. The steps taken today are shaping a more secure space environment for the future.
