SingTel Extends MVSAT Network Globally Via SES NEW SKIES Satellites
by Staff Writers
Singapore (SPX) Jun 23, 2008

-

SES NEW SKIES has announced that Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) is extending its suite of maritime satellite solutions globally by contracting capacity on SES NEW SKIES' NSS-7, NSS-703 and NSS-5 satellites. Terms of the three-year deal for up to 5MHz of capacity over the three satellites remain confidential.

Mr. Titus Yong, SingTel's Vice President of Satellite, said: "SingTel, one of Asia's leading satellite service providers, has been providing VSAT services with regional coverage for over two years. We are pleased to work with a top-tier global satellite service provider such as SES NEW SKIES to extend our reach to provide seamless and secure worldwide coverage over all major shipping routes."

The SES NEW SKIES satellites will also support demand for SingTel's OfficeAtSea@SingTel suite of Maritime VSAT solutions, which enable vessels to communicate seamlessly and cost-effectively with their headquarters on land.

Solutions include 'always-on' unlimited broadband internet access, email, low-cost Voice over IP (VoIP) calls, GSM onboard and ship surveillance. These overcome the limitations of traditional maritime communications by allowing the ship to become a seamless extension of the shore-based office.

States Elias Zaccack, Vice President of Sales Asia Pacific at SES NEW SKIES: "SingTel is packaging its extensive maritime satellite solutions with SES NEW SKIES' global and ubiquitous satellite reach to offer seamless and complete telecommunications solutions to vessels and offshore operations. We look forward to working with SingTel to provide coverage for 'OfficeATSea@SingTel' over all major shipping routes worldwide."

NSS-7
NSS-7 is a state-of-the-art, hybrid Ku- and C-band satellite located at 338 degrees East over the Atlantic Ocean, providing coverage of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. NSS-7 is located at one of the hottest orbital locations for trans-Atlantic connectivity as well as internet connectivity from North America into Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

NSS-703
NSS-703 at 57 degrees East provides vital cross-connectivity for Europe, Africa and Asia. NSS-703's coverage includes a global beam, and two C-band hemispheric beams, which cover Africa and the triangle from the Middle East to Japan and Australia, including all of India and China.

NSS-5
NSS-5 is SES NEW SKIES' principal connectivity satellite for the Pacific Ocean Region. Located at the prime orbital location of 183 degrees East (177 degrees West), NSS-5 is one of the few satellites that can connect North America with all major destinations in the Pacific Rim.
