Saddam Hussein statue pulled down in Kirkuk
KIRKUK, Iraq (AFP) Apr 10, 2003
Residents of the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk pulled down a large statue of Saddam Hussein in the central square and burned a giant portrait of the Iraqi president, an AFP correspondent witnessed Thursday.

They took several hours to demolish the statue, showing Saddam wearing traditional robes, with sledgehammers and a cable, as they cried "Down with Saddam, Bush, Bush!"

Earlier Thursday Kurdish and US forces entered the key oil production centre as Iraqi troops withdrew.
