In response to the decision by Industry Minister James Moore, TerreStar Solutions' President, Andre Tremblay said, "I congratulate Prime Minister Harper and Industry Minister James Moore for this decision which supports wireless services in rural and remote communities and spurs wireless competition in Canada, thereby lowering wireless prices for Canadians and producing new jobs in this high technology industry." Following a national consultation that was initiated in May of this year, the Harper government's issuance of the Mobile Satellite Service and Advanced Wireless Service (AWS-4) policy by Minister Moore reaffirms the Minister's commitment to increase the amount of spectrum available to serve rural and remote areas of the country and to provide competitive wireless services in Canada. Tremblay continued, "Spectrum is the fuel that drives new technological developments, higher speed mobile services and lower prices for consumers. By modifying existing policies to make this spectrum useable in Canada the Harper government will contribute to lower prices and will allow companies to provide better services for consumers, regardless of whether they are in highly populated cities or more rural and underserved communities." "This policy by the Harper government is the critical ingredient needed to attract new capital to Canada's wireless market and for making a fourth competitor in every region a reality" concluded Tremblay. TerreStar Solutions CFO and Treasurer, Jacques Leduc added, "this significant milestone will allow TerreStar Solutions to become an active player in the Canadian wireless landscape." The national Mobile Satellite Service and AWS-4 spectrum will provide a solid foundation for the wireless broadband network of tomorrow and will deliver mobile Internet to all Canadians at affordable prices. A Montreal-based Canadian company, TerreStar Solutions was founded in 2008. With this decision, TerreStar Solutions will be licensed by Industry Canada for 40 MHz of AWS-4 and 20 MHz of Mobile Satellite spectrum to provide mobile satellite and terrestrial services to all Canadians, regardless of location.
