Redondo Beach CA (SPX) Jul 11, 2005 Northrop Grumman Corporation has named David L. Ryan vice president of payloads and sensors for its Space Technology sector. In this role, he will be responsible for all of the sector's subcontracting activities and will lead strategy development and implementation for payloads and sensors. Ryan will report to Alexis Livanos, president of the Space Technology sector. Ryan, 51, rejoins the company from Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems where he was vice president and general manager. "As we increase our role as a top-tier prime contractor for space systems, the importance of effectively developing and integrating sophisticated sensors and other payloads into our systems has become one of the most significant determinants of our success," said Livanos. "In recognition of the significant leverage to our business success, Dave will direct subcontract management strategy and overall subcontract performance." Ryan will lead a subcontracting team involved in managing sensor, payload and other subcontracts. The Space Technology sector currently manages a portfolio consisting of hundreds of active contracts, several of which have values in excess of $1 billion, Livanos noted. These contracts include the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System, the James Webb Space Telescope, the Space Tracking and Surveillance System, Space Radar and several other programs of national importance. While at Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems, Ryan's assignments have included leading Boeing Satellite Systems International, including Boeing's Satellite Development Center and Commercial/Civil Satellites. Prior to that, he led all internal operations for the division as vice president and deputy general manager in the Space and Intelligence Systems Division. Prior to joining Boeing in 1990, Ryan spent 13 years designing and operating satellite systems for the former TRW Space and Electronics Group in Redondo Beach, Calif. (acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2002). He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
