Press Trust of India reports India has offered ASEAN countries training in space technologies, including remote sensing applications and satellite design, as a part of measures to step up co-operation in the field. India, through the Indian Space Research Organisation, has offered ASEAN countries short-term training programmes in satellite design to help them fulfill their aspirations in the niche field.

At the ongoing 12th Technology Summit and Technology Platform, ASEAN Secretary General Ong Keng Yong had sought proposals and a programme of action for the next five years to improve the lives of the people in the region.

ISRO has also offered to set up a pilot project on tele-medicine in one of the ASEAN countries to enable their people to seek medical assistance from experts in Indian hospitals, Jacob Ninan, Programme Director, International Cooperation, ISRO told PTI.

He said the space agency was awaiting reply from ASEAN.

"They have to nominate a country where a pilot project could be set up," Ninan said.

Cooperation in the area of space technology is a key agenda of the 12th Technology Summit and Technology Platform, of which ASEAN is a partner group this year.

Besides, satellite design and telemedicine, India has also offered access to remote sensing data, including satellite imagery of the region for weather forecasting.
