The commercial availability of BGAN in the US marks a crucial step in the launch of the service. BGAN is now available worldwide, covering North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, giving global access to mobile broadband for the first time.

BGAN is the world's first global high-speed mobile satellite network providing users with plug-and-play voice and data communications over a 492 kbps shared channel. It offers access to the internet, email accounts and corporate networks via a portable, lightweight IP satellite modem.

The FTMSC Group is Inmarsat's primary technical partner in the development of the BGAN solution. Since the co-project began in 2004, the Group has put together a tailored offering covering airtime, terminals, valued-added services and applications, designed to provide end-users and distributors with the most complete broadband mobile satellite solution on the market.

Value-added services include pre-paid phone cards, free messaging software, VPN (virtual private network) solutions and budget control tools.
