SunEdison has announced the completion of a 677 kilowatt ground-mount solar photovoltaic (PV) system that will provide energy for the AT and T materials distribution facility in Lancaster, Texas.

"SunEdison and AT and T have a long history of working together to develop and implement renewable energy systems at AT and T sites in New Jersey and California," said Rafael Dobrzynski, SVP and General Manager of Commercial and Industrial Distributed Generation at SunEdison.

"We're really pleased we can deliver great energy savings in their home state of Texas."

"AT and T is proud to introduce this new solar power installation in Lancaster," said Holly Reed, Regional Vice President of AT and T.

"We are continuously seeking opportunities to add renewable energy resources to power our business operations. We see the benefits that come from diversifying our energy supply to include sources like solar. Lancaster is the perfect community to continue our solar collaboration right here in Texas."

AT and T and SunEdison have worked together since 2010, and in 2012 AT and T awarded SunEdison with a Supplier Sustainability Award for helping launch its solar energy efforts. This 677 kilowatt ground-mount solar power plant is the latest collaboration between the companies. The system is constructed using 2,000 high-efficiency SunEdison solar panels. SunEdison is also working with TerraForm Power on this project.

AT and T and SunEdison's fleet of solar power arrays have generated over 8.6 million kWh of clean on-site energy. From an environmental perspective, this is estimated to have prevented over 13 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.1 That's equivalent to 14,000,000 car miles not driven, the power to run 540 homes for a year, or the CO2 benefit of 4,000 acres of US forests.

New solder for semiconductors creates technological possibilities
Chicago IL (SPX) Feb 19, 2015
A research team led by the University of Chicago's Dmitri Talapin has demonstrated how semiconductors can be soldered and still deliver good electronic performance. "We worked out new chemistry for a broad class of compositions relevant to technologically important semiconductors," said Talapin, a professor in chemistry. Semiconductors sit at the heart of most electronics. From computer ch ... read more
