@Road Awarded Two New Patents for Applying Business Rules To GPS Applications
Fremont CA (SPX) Dec 10, 2004 @Road(R), Inc. has been awarded U.S. Patent 6,795,017, "Rule-based Actions using GPS Tracking Data," and European Patent EP1168863, "Dual Platform Location-relevant Service." The company has a total of thirteen patents issued and, as of today, more than 30 additional patents pending in jurisdictions throughout the world. The new U.S. patent, the tenth U.S. patent issued to @Road, describes a technique of enforcing rule-based actions upon tracking data obtained from GPS mobile devices. Many of today's GPS-enabled mobile devices are configured to do nothing more then collect or measure GPS data. This new patent, currently in use with the @Road service, improves the methodology and systems regarding the enforcement of four separate processes:
For example, a user may wish to know if a vehicle has passed a speed threshold. To enforce this rule, GPS data is collected and then compared to the speed threshold. If the speed threshold is exceeded, an action is taken, such as an alert to the user. The @Road European patent, EP1168863, describes the technology currently in use by the @Road suite of products that allows for the collection, processing and delivery of location-relevant services accessible "on-demand" or "pushed" from one GPS-enabled mobile device to a second mobile device. For example, one mobile device can be installed to monitor the operations or maintenance of a vehicle and "push" the data for viewing and reporting to a second mobile device through the @Road service. "Our recently issued patents validate the extensive R&D research @Road has conducted to develop optimized and intelligent service delivery flow within mobile resource management technologies," said Krish Panu, president and CEO of @Road. "The continued issuance of new patents illustrates our significant and continued commitment to strengthening our position as a leading MRM service provider."
