L-3 To Provide TT&C Hardware For Space Test Program

C/NOFS is the ionospheric scintillation forecast tool of the future. It is intended to alert U.S. warfighters of impending UHF and L-band satellite communication outages, GPS navigation degradations and space-based radar tracking errors caused by radio signal fluctuations.
San Diego - Apr 22, 2002
The Conic enterprise of L-3 Communications' newly formed Telemetry-West division announced today that it has been awarded a contract from Spectrum Astro, Inc. (SAI) to provide Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C) hardware for the Space Test Program's (STP) Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) program.

The hardware, which includes a Space-Ground Link System (SGLS) transponder with embedded encryption/decryption as well as a receiver/decryptor, complements current Air Force programs and builds on existing synergies between L-3 and Spectrum Astro.

C/NOFS is the ionospheric scintillation forecast tool of the future. It is intended to alert U.S. warfighters of impending UHF and L-band satellite communication outages, GPS navigation degradations and space-based radar tracking errors caused by radio signal fluctuations.

"We're very excited to have the opportunity to provide additional space hardware to SAI," said Alan Howell, vice president of business development at L-3 Telemetry-West. "This is a great fit for both companies and continues the strong relationship developed on the previously awarded Coriolis program."

"L-3 's performance on the Coriolis program was outstanding," said Bob Shimel, subsystem lead for RF equipment at SAI. "We congratulate L-3 on a successful program and look forward to a continued strong business relationship as we move forward on the C/NOFS program."
