Finmeccanica Interested In Accords With French Defence Industry

Rome (AFP) Jun 01, 2005
Italy's defence and aeronautic group Finmeccanica wants to forge alliances with the French defence industry, its president and administrator Pier Francesco Guarguaglini said on Wednesday.

French newspaper Le Figaro announced recently that the French electronics group Thales could link up to French telecommunications equipment manufacturer Alcatel and Finmeccanica, to forge a company capable of competing with the European aerospace giant EADS.

"We are interested in agreements, including structural agreements, with the French defence industry," Guarguaglini told a news conference after the general assembly of shareholders.

"The government and the prime minister (Silvio Berlusconi) were in favour during talks. Nevetheless it all depends on the proposals and real and concrete perspectives," Guarguaglini said.
