Boeing Joins Chrysalix Energy Fuel-Cell Partnership

Vancouver - Jul 2, 2003
Boeing Co has become the seventh partner in the private-equity Chrysalix Energy Limited Partnership, Chrysalix said Thursday. Vancouver-based Chrysalix invests in early-stage companies developing fuel cells and related infrastructure for various electronics, power-generation and transportation applications.

Boeing, Chicago, has several divisions that are focusing on new markets for fuel-cell technology, a Boeing executive said in the news release. It didn't say how much Boeing is contributing to Chrysalix but said the aerospace firm becomes an equal partner.

The Boeing participation is through Boeing Phantom Works, the company's advanced research and development arm, according to the news release.

Chrysalix was formed in 2001 by Ballard Power Systems Inc. , the Shell Hydrogen unit of Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Westcoast Energy, later taken over by Duke Energy Corp. British industrial-gas concern BOC Group PLC , the venture arm of German chemical company BASF AG , and Mitsubishi Corp. have since become equal partners.
