Pressure Systems, Inc. (PSI) recently expanded its extensive, world-class satellite propellant tank welding facility to accommodate TIG welding of tanks up to 12 ft. in length by 4-1/2 ft. diameter in an inert gas environment. The facility upgrades included building structural work to accommodate the larger equipment and an increase of 115 sq. ft. of clean room space, resulting in a total 3,715 sq. ft. Class 10,000 welding clean room. The upgrades also included a 2 ft. long extension to PSI's large 6 ft. diameter inert gas automatic TIG weld chamber to properly orient and work on satellite propellant tanks and propellant management devices up to 12 ft. in length. The upgrades were driven by a market demand for longer PMD propellant tanks as part of satellite bus derivative extensions. PSI's state of the art propellant tank welding facility is part of PSI's 104,000 sq. ft. tank manufacturing facility in Commerce, California, the largest independent satellite propellant tank manufacturer in the world. Since 1963, PSI in previous facilities in Commerce and now in the newer facility, has delivered over 4,500 tanks, primarily for satellites and launch vehicles. PSI and its 3 sister companies- Programmed Composites (PCI), Dynatherm (DCI), and ABLE Engineering- are suppliers of space industry components and subsystems, providing propellant and pressure tanks, composite spacecraft structures, thermal management components and subsystems, deployable mechanical structures, and solar array systems. The majority stockholder of PSI, Windward Capital Partners, is a privately owned New York based investment firm.
