The Center for Space Standards & Innovation (CSSI) now offers a free current list of potential close approaches in space.

SOCRATES - Satellite Orbital Conjunction Reports Assessing Threatening Encounters in Space - is available at CSSI's Web site and includes the top 10 possible conjunctions listed by maximum probability and minimum range.

"The ever-increasing number of spacecraft and debris orbiting the globe raises the threat of a disastrous conjunction," says Dr. Salvatore Alfano, CSSI's technical program manager.

"SOCRATES, powered by the analytical engine of AGI's STK/CAT [STK/Conjunction Analysis Tools], ultimately enables satellite operators to avoid undesired close approaches through advanced mission planning."

1Earth Research, an STK solution provider based in Colorado Springs, has partnered with AGI and CSSI to provide custom consulting services for satellite operators who wish to examine listed conjunctions in further detail.

DARTing Into Space
Dulles VA (SPX) Jul 07, 2004
Imagine this: As a modern spacecraft slowly approaches the International Space Station (ISS), it makes small corrections to make sure it's perfectly on course. Finally, the docking connectors meet with an amazing level of precision. The hatch to the vehicle opens, and out steps - no one. The extremely accurate rendezvous and docking was carried out completely by computer.
