China's fledgling space program will launch an unmanned test flight next month, the third in a series expected to herald a manned trip by as early as 2003, industry sources said Friday.

Ambitious Space Effort Challenges China In Next Five Years

China could launch 35 or more science and application satellites in the next five years, Xinhua News Agency reported September 6. At the 2001 China Western Forum which was held in Xi'an in the central Shaanxi Province, Deputy General Manager of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) Hu Hongfu said that the company would design, develop and launch different types of satellites, totalling to 35, in this period.

Shenzhou-2 Orbital Module Set To Re-enter After Nine-Month Mission

The Shenzhou-2 Orbital Module is dropping in altitude rapidly and may reenter this Friday (Aug. 24). The Orbital Information Group (OIG) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center has been monitoring the orbital module and providing regular updates on its expected reentry time.
