Chile buys French-made satellite for 72 million dollars

Chile has decided to buy a satellite for military and scientific purposes from France's EADS-Astrium group, the newspaper La Tercera reported Friday.Chile's Defense Ministry wants the 72-million-dollar satellite to monitor the country's borders and to help with natural disasters. Some 25 groups submitted bids for the deal, and the tender was won by the French aerospace and defense group, according to La Tercera. The satellite is slated to be rocketed into orbit in 2010.
