South Korea's Hynix develops "world's first" highspeed memory chip
SEOUL (AFP) Mar 11, 2004
South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor Inc said Thursday it has developed a new high-speed memory chip for high-end personal computers and game equipment, claiming it to be the world's first.

Volume production of the high-speed chips, 550MHz DDR SDRAMs, will be launched in April, it said.

Prices of the chips are expected to be about two times the price of existing 400MHz DDR SDRAM chips.

Hynix said more than 30 percent of desktop PCs will adopt Intel Corp's new chipset Grantsdale in the second half, which supports DDR and DDR2 SDRAM chips.
